Furio de Angelis got acquainted with ancient historical monuments and cultural establishments of Nakhchivan city

Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in the Republic of Azerbaijan, Furio de Angelis paid a visit to Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and he participated in a regional training on “Improving the mechanism on applications related to asylum” held in Nakhchivan Business Center. In the frame of his visit he got acquainted with ancient historical monuments and cultural establishments of Nakhchivan city.

At first, the guest visited “Nakhchivangala” Historical-Architectural Museum Complex. Here he was informed that the museum in the complex exhibits the household pitcher of the V millenium BC., different household tools of the V-III milleniums BC., ceramic products of the Late Bronze and Early Iron Age, copper tools, gravestone monuments, weapons, armors. “Nakhchivangala” has become a center where cultural-mass events are held in the autonomous republic.

The tomb of Prophet Noah, located near the complex, also tells the ancient history of this land.

Furio de Angelis got acquainted with the “Khan Palace” State Historical Architectural, Momuna Khatun and Museum Complex under the Open Sky.

Stone monuments exhibiting in open air in Ajami Space in Nakhchivan attracted the attention of the guest. It was informed that 450 material and cultural examples of stone found in the territory of   Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic - stone sculptures, stone inscriptions, various stone figures, gravestones - are exhibited here.

Acquaintance with the mausoleum of Momina Khatun, the pearl of eastern architecture,  famous monument of national architecture of Azerbaijan made a good impression on the guest. It was noted that this magnificent monument was built in 1186. At that time Shamsaddin Eldaniz, the founder of the Atabeyler state of Azerbaijan, decided to establish a mausoleum on the grave of his wife Momina khatin, and then the mausoleum was built by the outstanding architect Ajami Abubakr oghlu Nakhchivani. At the head of the monument, which is also called “Atabey dome” from time to time in the memory of the people, these words were written by Kufic: “We pass away, but only the wind is left behind us. We die, but only a work is left as a present”. The tomb consists of a vault and overground part.

In “Khan Palace”, Furio de Angelis was informed that this museum was created considering the role of the Nakhchivan khanate in our national statehood and the maintenance of its territory in Azerbaijan. At present there are hundreds of exhibits in the museum consisting of 8 exposition halls. Among these exhibits there are archival documents, photos, maps of Nakhchivan khanate, map of khanate.

The visit of the representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Azerbaijan, Furio de Angelis, to the autonomous republic ended yesterday.
