Nakhchivan Tourism Information Center implements consistent measures for the promotion of autonomous republic’s tourism potential

Today, complex measures are being carried out in Nakhchivan to expand tourism activity, which plays an important role in accelerating socio-economic development. The purpose of the establishment of Nakhchivan Tourism Information Center with the Decree of the Chairman of the Supreme Majlis of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of May 15, 2006 is to accelerate the work done to promote the tourism potential of the autonomous republic.

One of the main activities of the center is informing local and foreign citizens applying to this cultural institution. However, the center also performs other tasks. Thus, the preparation and publication of visual aids reflecting tourism potential of the autonomous republic, the formation and servicing of the Tourism Information Bank, promoting the tourism potential of the autonomous republic by using internet resources, establishing contacts with other tourism information centers operating in the country and sharing information and exchange of information are the among of  the tasks. The website of the center reflects the innovations in tourism field in the autonomous republic, visitors are provided with detailed information about hotels, restaurants, museums, shops, rented houses, historical and cultural monuments, tour companies, guides and so on.

According to the work plan, separate schematic plans were prepared for each of the 5 tourist routes on the Nakhchivan-Ordubad, Nakhchivan-Gamigaya, Nakhchivan-Alinjagala, Nakhchivan-Ashabi-Kahf and Nakhchivan-Garabaghlar directions in the autonomous republic, booklets in Azerbaijani and English have prepared. In addition, tourist map of the autonomous republic and a booklet of the Nakhchivan Tourism Information Center were prepared and published by the center.

 Nakhchivan Tourism Information Center also continues its work on updating tourism routes and advertising information materials. Nakhchivan-Gulustan, Nakhchivan-Shahbuz-Batabat, Nakhchivan-Shahbuz-Aghbulag routes and a booklet of   Noah Prophet’s tomb, a catalog of the Duzdagh Physiotherapy Center and “Naftalan oil” advertising materials have been prepared.

Today, Tourism Information Center effectively uses internet resources and continues its work to promote the tourism potential of the center and the autonomous republic. Note that the center’s website has been reconstructed. Visiting the website tourists can get detailed information about tourism potential of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, tourist information, tourism routes, tourism facilities, hotels and motels, rented houses, restaurants and cafes, shopping malls, entertainment facilities, museums, theaters, libraries, national costumes, musical instruments, dances, kitchen samples and historical monuments.  The website also includes banks, travel agencies, guides, video clips and photos, and links have been added. The information is available in Azerbaijani, Russian and English languages. The web site was connected to the network on June 6, 2016. The center’s website contains information on the address of more than 50 village houses which receive tourists, and photos related to them, so far, more than 90,000 visitors have been registered on the website.

On March 18, 2016, at consultation held at Supreme Majlis of   Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic related to development of tourism in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, a joint action plan was prepared by the relevant organizations for the implementation of the tasks. In this context, Nakhchivan Tourism Information Center has also been given appropriate instructions. The wide and scientific presentation of the tourism potential of the autonomous republic was set as a matter of particular concern. One of the main tools for fulfilling this task at the required level is using social networks. The videos of the tourism potential of the autonomous republic were posted on the internet by Nakhchivan Tourism Information Center, more than 1000 information videos have been download  in the center’s Youtube channel and more than 300 thousand visitors have been registered. It has 5,000 shares on “Facebook” social network and 650 thousand visitors. At the same time, the number of group members in “Facebook” social network group of the center has reached 12,128, 709 data is included, and 341 664 visitors have been registered. The videos of the tourism potential of the autonomous republic have also been posted on Twitter and Google+. The information sent to social networks is also provided to the users on the Center’s Instagram page.

 It should be noted that appeals of more than 2800 foreigners   coming to the center have been responded to. During this period, it was in the focus of attention to send materials related to the tourism opportunities of the autonomous republic to tourism information centers and tourism companies located in other regions of Azerbaijan, as well as to foreign countries. Over 35 foreign countries, more than 270 tourism companies operating in Azerbaijan and 13 tourism information centers located in the regions have been provided with information on tourism opportunities in the autonomous republic.

On the basis of the requests of the Islamic Republic of Iran which sends tourists to Nakhchivan in groups,   the heads of major tourist companies located in Baku and tourism information centers in the regions, booklets and materials about historical monuments, places of interest of the autonomous republic were given to them. There are also appeals to the e-mail address and contact numbers of the center. These appeals are reviewed and coordinated with relevant tour agencies.

Last year, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, together with the related organizations, has posted nearly one thousand photos and 152 promotional videos in the section “We Present Nakhchivan”, which was created on the website of the center, in connection with the 27th of September - the World Tourism Day. These materials were submitted to the Youth Foundation under the Chairman of the Supreme Majlis of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, the Youth and Sports Ministry, Nakhchivan State Television, “Sharg gapisi” (gate of the east) newspaper and other newspapers, as well as news agencies. Totally 1047 people and 60 groups participated in the action. 273 sites were posted information on the promotion   of Nakhchivan, materials were published in 41 sites, about 55,000 shares, 265,000 likes and 851,000 viewers were registered.

Nakhchivan Tourism Information Center actively participated in the competition organized by “Support for Sustainable Tourism Development” Public Union. Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic was presented in the “Azerbaijan” catalog in the second place after the Baku-Absheron. Moreover, Nakhchivan Tourism Information Center was awarded a certificate and honorary order for its participation in the preparation of the catalog and 50 copies of the promotion catalog were donated to Nakhchivan Tourism Information Center.

Students of Nakhchivan State University and “Nakhchivan” University studying in Tourism and Hospitality specialty also visit Nakhchivan Tourism Information Center in accordance with the schedule of internships at the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. Here, students are informed about the tourism potential of the autonomous republic, the establishment and operation of   Nakhchivan Tourism Information Center, the work done and the historical monument - the Zaviyya madrasa building in which the center is situated, and their questions are answered in detail.
