Chairman of the Supreme Majlis of   Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Chairman of the Organizing Committee established due to the declaration of Nakhchivan city as the Capital of Islamic Culture for 2018 Vasif Talibov met Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri,Director General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization and the representatives of foreign countries that came to the autonomous republic to attend the opening ceremony of "Nakhchivan - Capital of Islamic Culture 2018" on June 20.

The Chairman of the Supreme Majlis welcomed the guests in the city of Nakhchivan, the sacred land of Azerbaijan and expressed his gratitude to the initiators of the declaration of Nakhchivan city as the Capital of Islamic Culture for 2018. It was noted that the work on the election of Nakhchivan city as the Capital of Islamic Culture has been successfully carried out by the attention and support of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev since 2009. The monuments of Turkic-Islamic culture have been restored, books about Islam and its values ​​have been published. The logo and souvenirs of "Nakhchivan - Capital of Islamic Culture 2018" were also created, and badges, envelopes and postage stamps which have logo on them were published.

Speaking about ancient history of Nakhchivan, homeland of Prophet Noah, the work done to preserve religious values ​​and the development of Turkic-Islamic culture, the Chairman of the Supreme Majlis emphasized the importance of Nakhchivan's election as the Capital of Islamic Culture and expressed confidence that the "Nakhchivan - Capital of Islamic Culture  2018" events would be successful.

Director General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri, thanked for the hospitality to him and his delegation, spoke about the cities elected as the Capital of Islamic Culture and the work done on this project. The Director General said the election of Nakhchivan city as the Capital of Islamic Culture for 2018 was the right choice. Because there is a rich historical and cultural heritage in this ancient land of Azerbaijan. At the same time, ​​ Nakhchivan's modern development, cleanliness, its air and the work carried out to preserve Islamic values ​​are satisfying.

Emphasizing the importance of Nakhchivan's rich historical and cultural heritage and the importance of promoting Islamic values, Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri,said the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization will continue to attach importance to cooperation with Nakhchivan. At the end of his speech, he said: "Long live Azerbaijan and its Nakhchivan city, the Capital of Islamic Culture, long live Islamic Solidarity".

Minister of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Deputy Chairman of the Organizing Committee established due to the declaration of Nakhchivan city as the Capital of Islamic Culture for 2018 Abulfas Garayev said that Islamic countries are represented by high-level representatives at the opening ceremony of "Nakhchivan - Capital of Islamic Culture 2018" and it has great interest in the event.

 Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri, presented the symbolic logo by the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization on the declaration of Nakhchivan city as the Capital of Islamic Culture for 2018 to Vasif Talibov, Chairman of the Supreme Majlis of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
