Day of International Monuments and Historical Places celebrated

An event dedicated to April 18 Day of International Monuments and Historical Places was held in Babek Region History-Ethnography Museum.

Opening the event, head of the Culture and Tourism Department of Babek Region Jeyhun Farajov said that by the decision of the UNESCO’s International Council on Monuments Protection, since 1982, April 18 is celebrated as the "Day of International Monuments and Historical Places" every year. The main purpose of celebrating this day is to draw people's attention to the preservation of historical monuments and places. The head of the department spoke about national leader Heydar Aliyev's measures and decisions taken in the study of Nakhchivan history and ancient monuments.

It was noted that thanks to the attention and care of the Chairman of the Supreme Majlis of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, successful results have been achieved in this area. The Decree of the Chairman of the Supreme Majlis of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic dated December 6, 2005 “On organizing the protection and passport registration of the historical and cultural monuments in the territory of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic”, laid the foundation for a new stage in the study of historical and cultural monuments in the autonomous republic. 1202 monuments were registered during the investigations carried out in the autonomous republic in 2006-2014.

Director of the Memorial Museum of Jalil Mammadguluzadeh in Nehram village, Honored Culture Worker Akif Hajiyev noted in his speech on "The importance of the promotion of historical and cultural monuments" that the younger generation must learn the history of the people they belong to and be proud of their native homeland. For this, we need to form national-moral upbringing in young people. The promotion of monuments in this work is also of great importance. Akif Hajiyev also noted that propaganda work should be strengthened at schools to make younger generation love our historical heritage, values, and increase the knowledge of pupils in this field. Tourist-ethnographical excursions should be organized regularly at schools. Young people should be aware that they have honorable responsibility to preserve our cultural heritage and hand down the future generations.

Director of the Babek Region History-Ethnography Museum Arzu Gasimov delivered a speech on the subject of "The monuments of Turkish-Islamic culture in Nakhchivan". It was stressed that historical monuments play a role of a bridge from the past to the future. Our historical monuments, which our ancestors left as mementos, are an indicator of the ancient culture of the Azerbaijani people. Because every historic monument preserves cultural environment, thinking style of its time. It is noted that Nakhchivan, one of the oldest settlements and cultural centers of Azerbaijan, is rich in caves, settlements, magnificent castles, rock paintings, stone sculptures and tombstones that brilliantly reflect the history of our people.

Nakhchivan is one of the centers of world civilization, rich in Turkish-Islamic monuments. People who lived in this area have created numerous historical and cultural monuments, some of which have survived to this day. Some of the monuments that have been exposed for some reason have been repaired and restored over the years, especially after the restoration of state independence, and given them second life.

Then the guide of the Babek Region Historical-Ethnography Museum Narmin Mammadzadeh spoke about the historical and cultural monuments of Nakhchivan on the topic "Nakhchivan is the land of historical monuments".

Folk songs were performed by music collectives of Culture and Tourism Department of Babek region at the event.
